This 200 ping project is located on the fifth floor circular atrium of the South Tower of Joy City in Jing'an, Shanghai. INSDIM was responsible for the site planning and spatial design, and the local engineering team was responsible for the construction of the project.
Located in central Shanghai, in the heart of Suhewan in the Jing'an district, with direct access to Metro Line 8, Joy City is well known for its iconic rooftop Ferris wheel. The shopping area is close to many major traffic arteries such as North Xizang Road, Tianmu Middle Road and North Henan Road and connects to the East Nanjing Road shopping area to the south, bringing a constant and diverse flow of customers. Maxus Playground is an extension of this concept, as it aims to provide a vibrant offline social theme and space for the younger generation through continuous and innovative event planning.
Maxus Playground aims to be an open, interactive and communicative space for hand sports enthusiasts, providing a comfortable space for professional players to practice and communicate with each other, as well as creating opportunities for potential players to join the community, and regularly inviting experienced players to provide instruction.
In terms of movement planning, we have created separate routes for shoppers and staff in order to take into account both the flow of people on the floor and in the venue. Once again, the theme of Maxus Playground is an open free space, with displays, counters, mirrors, curtains and other props lining the edges of the free space in sequence. To make it easier to switch between modes, the venue is divided by visually continuous but structurally independent curtains as flexible partitions - the open central area and flexible curtains offer the possibility of a free plane for any layout.
